Let's Plant 2 Million Trees

Trees For a Healthy Community

The Trees for a Healthy Community Organization runs a program named Trees for Birthday Initiative whereby they organize monthly tree planting events in which those celebrating their birthdays in a particular month get to plant their future as they share a big green cake. This is a way of inspiring people especially those in the informal settlements and students to be actively involved in making a positive change in their environments.

In February 2020, 200 trees were planted at the Bensophyl Community School in Kawangware. As part of the event, students were educated on environmental conservation including tree planting and waste management. The students actively participated in planting the trees and cleaning their environment which was important in ingraining the education they had received.

In November 2020, 200 trees were planted at the Rowallan Scouts Camp in Kibera. As is custom education on tree planting was provided to the scouts who were also encouraged to maintain the trees after the event and to also take the education imparted to their families.

In December 2020, 100 trees were planted at the James Gichuru Secondary School in Dandora. As part of the event, education on environmental conservation was imparted as well as donation of personal hygiene products to the students.
